About

Tomasz Kuszewicz

Budō Teacher & Martial Arts Instructor
Aikido 5th Dan · Karate 4th Dan · Iaido 3rd Dan

Over 25 years of professional martial arts teaching experience. Seminars and workshops across Europe. Founder of Sensei Smile, an approach to teaching based on understanding, movement and genuine connection.

My approach to martial arts is also shaped by my work in hypnosis, chiropractic and bodywork. These disciplines offer different perspectives on how people perceive, respond and move, helping me explore the connection between body, mind and movement.

Teaching experience & grades

Over 25 years teaching martial arts. Aikido Aikikai 5th Dan, Kobayashi-ryu Karate 4th Dan, Iaido ZNKR 3rd Dan. Teaching emphasizes principles rather than copying forms.

Why hypnosis and chiropractic?

My work in hypnosis, chiropractic and bodywork informs how I explore attention, perception, tension and physical responses. These are complementary perspectives, not medical claims or services offered through this website.

The story behind the name

Why Sensei Smile?

It all started with a punch.

During a demonstration, a blow temporarily left me unable to hear the master’s instructions. I just stood there smiling. After several attempts to ask me to attack, he called me “Mr. Smile.”

How did Mr. Smile become Sensei Smile?

What began as a spontaneous nickname on the mat became a reminder not to take myself too seriously. Over time, it also came to express my approach to teaching: curiosity, openness and connection.

The philosophy

Hohoemi no Michi

The Way of the Smile

A smile can express inner harmony. But it can also be the first step towards finding it.

For me, smiling is not about pretending everything is fine. It is a way of meeting the world with openness, presence and the freedom to choose a response instead of immediately resisting.

Sometimes harmony allows us to smile.
And sometimes a smile helps us find harmony.

Less fighting. More feeling. More understanding.

Experience & Connections

The people behind
the practice.

Decades of practice are shaped not only by techniques, but also by teachers, training partners and the communities we learn with. Real encounters. Shared movement. Continuing discovery.
